The Norse Sagas: Blood Feud & Honor
Mission Briefing
Master 10 authentic quests in the Norse sagas: dream symbolism, skaldic verse, kennings, understated humor, and the Althing assembly of Iceland.
The Norse Sagas: Blood Feud & Honor is an interactive literary escape room exploring medieval Icelandic saga traditions.
Students take on the role of a young legal scholar and skald in Iceland in the year 1004. A deadly blood feud threatens to destroy the clan unless a legal reconciliation is secured at the Althing before nightfall.
Through 10 tactile missions, students explore core saga tropes: prophetic dreams and foreshadowing, skaldic poetry with rotating cipher wheels and kennings, the biting litotes (understatements) of saga dialogue, the scorn-pole (níðstang) and warrior codes of honor, family genealogies, rules of the holmgang duel, Gunnar's bow from Njál's Saga, outlaw shelters on the Icelandic terrain map, legal statutes of the Grágás code, and the final judgment at the Law Rock (Lögberg) with bronze balance scales.
The mission launches directly in fullscreen. Players can collaborate together on one or across multiple devices.
